Member of Technical Staff, Hardware
Apply Zurich On-site Full time
About Baseline
Open source revolutionised how we write software, but its impact on robotics stays limited due to expensive hardware accessible only to well-funded labs. We run that hardware as shared infrastructure for the broader community, billed only for active compute. For a given task, policies are evaluated under similar conditions, giving researchers common ground for fair comparisons.
In this role you will
- Design the mechanical and electrical layout of each station, from arm mounting to cable routing.
- Integrate actuators, grippers, cameras, and sensors into one calibrated station.
- Produce CAD, fabricate or source parts, and bring station revisions from drawing to hardware.
- Build maintenance, calibration, and diagnostics keeping stations comparable across the fleet.
- Trace a fault to its mechanical, electrical, or assembly root cause, and fix the next build.
What we hope you'll bring
- Experience building and debugging robot hardware against real-world behaviour.
- Fluency in CAD and comfort with mechanical and electrical design, sensing, and actuation.
- Calibration, tolerance, and repeatability designed in from the start.
- Comfort on a lab floor, hands on hardware, iterating a failing station to a functional one.
We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every qualification.
